Teenager arrested for thefts from Auckland jewelry store

A teenager has been arrested in connection with a series of robberies across Auckland.

Police searched a property in Henderson on Wednesday and found a large amount of jewelry, believed to have been stolen in several burglaries at Michael Hill Jewelers stores.

Further searches uncovered stolen alcohol and tobacco, a stolen car, a stolen motorcycle and cannabis packaged for delivery to the address, police said.

The 17-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery at the Fifth Avenue jewelers in Takapuna on April 20, aggravated robbery at Michael Hill Takapuna on June 20 and robbery at Super Liquor Sunnybrae on August 9.

He was scheduled to appear in North Shore District Court on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said investigations were underway to establish the origin of some jewelry and other charges were being considered.

Earlier, police charged a 20-year-old man with receiving stolen property following the Michael Hill incident.

Waitematā East Area Commander Inspector Stefan Sagar said the offenders entered the store with metal bars and smashed several glass cabinets.

Video of the theft showed a man wearing a black hoodie smashing the window, grabbing items and then running towards a getaway car.
