SLIPKNOT Drummer Explains How Creative Tension Fuels His Creative Process

If you’ve ever thought about how creative tension can permeate a group dynamic, take a moment to reflect on Metallicfor example: without a doubt, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich seem creatively adamant when it comes to songwriting. But that’s only two out of four guys in a scenario where everyone has earned the right to their opinion. Can you imagine what it’s like when you have nine guys in a band, each one as creative as the next, like in Noose?

At the bare minimum, the odds of defeating three or four groupmates seem a bit more realistic than with eight. Regardless of, Noose make it work. And, as a drummer Jay Weinberg recently explained to Magenta Musictension and creative concessions are exactly what Iowa metal champions thrive on to bring out the best in themselves.

“We are nine people who are very passionate about what we do, so when it comes to the creative side of things, you have nine creative voices that slip into a song,” Weinberg describe. “But what I’m proud to say is that at the end of the day, we all know each other’s strengths and what we bring to the table, and how we collaborate and respect each other in that way. .

“And all of those things eventually shine. It takes a long time for us to put together what we’re proud of because there’s so many people and so many ideas, so much inspiration. The nine of us have very different inspirations from each other, you know. So when we filter what we want to do creatively through the voice of Nooseit ends up being something completely new that is filtered through our tastes and talents and whatever.”

Noose are currently releasing their brand new single, “Yen”, from the upcoming LP, The end so far (and no, they do not separate). The album will be available on September 30 and pre-orders/pre-saves are available here.

Weinberg went on to admit that “Yeah, sure, we all have our ways of trying to set something in stone, to make it a song that we’re really proud of. And it takes a lot of work, that’s for sure. that there’s a creative tension, but that’s just great art. The phrase “iron sharpens iron” really holds true for us. We want the best in each other, we want the best in ourselves- themselves, and I think that translates to what we’re able to do, whether it’s in the studio or on stage.”
