Overkill bassist DD Verni has swapped his four strings for six and takes over guitar and lead vocals with his new swing band DD Verni and the Cadillac Band. A music video for the first single “Cadillac Man” was released at the same time as the announcement of the Let’s rattle Debut album.
The record encompasses Verni’s lifelong love of big band, swing, rockabilly, doo-wop, and blues, with some of his early favorites being Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, and Tom Jones in addition to his affinity for rock ‘n’ Roll crooners Jim Morrison, Ian Astbury and Glenn Danzig.
The energy of “Cadillac Man” is absolutely contagious – a rousing dose of upbeat rock, supported by a brass section and even a stand-up bass, with members of the Brian Setzer Orchestra and the Doobie Brothers to round off part of the lineup.
Of the debut single, Verni said: [“Cadillac Man” is] definitely one of my favorites and maybe the first one that I wrote specifically for the album. It kind of encompasses all of the different things that I wanted on the record. Upbeat, a little rock ‘n’ roll and a little swing. “
Although this song kind of a catalyst for that Let’s rattle Record, the material here goes back over a quarter of a century. “Manhattan Baby” was written as a gift to her and his wife 26 years ago after Verni’s first daughter was born. Meanwhile, “Just Say You Love Me” was another present – for Verni’s wife’s 50th birthday – and “Olivia … That’s Who!” was created as a present for his other daughter’s 16th birthday.
Let’s rattle, which will be released on September 17th on MVD, contains nine original songs and four covers. The artwork and tracklist can be seen further down the page, along with the “Cadillac Man” music video.

Overkill have already started work on their 20th studio album – the follow-up from 2019 The wings of war – and getting back on the streets will certainly be a priority, but Verni still has hopes of taking out his new band as well.
“I’m really looking forward to touring a bit,” he said, adding, “We’re looking at options now. Whether it’s a support slot, headline shows, or even festivals, I think it would be great. How about Paul Stanley? and his soul band [Soul Station] and DD Verni and his swing band on the same bill … hahahaha … awesome !!! “
