Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 set to return to PS Store soon

The metal gear The series turns 35 today, and Konami is marking the moment by confirming that it will resume “temporarily suspended title sales”. Not the most exciting birthday present in the world, is it? The post made on Twitter most likely refers to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty HD Edition and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater HD Edition, which have been removed from the PS Shop back in November. They now both seem set to return.

This again opens up classics for purchase on PS3 and PS Vita as well as the possibility of becoming streamable titles via PS Plus Premium. The Metal Gear Solid HD collection was part of PS now before it was removed, which was done so that Konami could renew “the licenses of certain historical stock footage used in the game”.

The Metal Gear Solid series is renowned for using actual footage of war events and political clips, as it merges its own timeline with the real world. Konami asked for “patience and understanding” as they worked to resolve the licensing for these videos, and now it appears the issue has been resolved. A quick scan of the PS Store reveals they’re not live yet, but Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater look set for a return in the near future.
