Akinlade, said this at a workshop organized by the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development in Kano, which is part of its annual small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) stimulation and promotion workshop for the geopolitical area. North West.

The one-day program, she explained, aimed to reinforce strategies designed for the growth of SMEs in the sector, as well as to raise awareness, stimulate and drive a significant improvement in the sector’s contributions to gross domestic product (GDP). ) of the country and economy.

While expressing their optimism that the workshop will fill the gaps of the participants in producing quality products that would compete favorably in the global market, the participants however urged the participants, who hailed from Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa, to ensure that the knowledge gained from the seminar will propel SMEs towards higher productivity leading to wealth creation, poverty reduction and increased GDP of the country.

In his welcoming remarks at the event, Acting Director (Steel), Engineer Olasupo, noted that the ministry is ready to see SME operators in the metals sector fully integrated with other stakeholders in the industry.

The hallmark of the event were the presentations made by SMEDAN representative, Aliyu Aminu; the head of the Banque du Nord, Alhaji Aminu Yusuf; and the GM (General Services), Ajaokuta Complex, Engr Suleiman Muhammad on critical topics to improve the performance of SMEs in the metals sector.

The resource persons walked the operators through the finer details of running a small and medium sized company in the metals sector in Nigeria; Financing options for SMEs in the metals sector in Nigeria; Safety and workshop practices to improve efficiency and productivity in metalworking companies, among others.
